HD Tune Findings
Reallocated Sector Count
Current=82 Worst=82 Threshold=10 Data=368 Status =Ok
Current Pending Sector
Current=99 Worst=94 Threshold=0 Data=1 Status=Ok
[how is the worst lower than the current?]
The Reallocated and Current Pending counts look high, but there were only 2 bad blocks per the error scan and after moving the folders I got the same error at the same point. I may still need to do a low-level scan of the HD.
I moved the folders to burn from shared docs to my docs and made a new compilation. Speed measurement failed w/ same message; Phase 30 File dlgbrnst.cpp, Line 1832 and I got the same disk error report in event viewer. There is also an earlier error that I missed before: File Reader.cpp, Line 382 Error reading data. This happens after caching is complete and speed measurement is started and it happened in both previous burn attempts.
HD Tune benchmarked the HD's average transfer rate as 18.3 MB/sec. I left the block size at the default of 64 KB. Burst rate was 71.5MB/sec
I'm not sure what to look for in nero's error report.
I noticed an old driver in "existing drivers". Only 3 are listed and they make no sense to me. ADPU160M.SYS has an old creation date of 8/17/2001, but isn't listed in device manager for either the LG or the virtual farstone drive. It's a Microsoft driver in System32. PXHELP20.SYS is listed in DM for both the LG & the VD. Fvdscsi.sys is a Farstone driver [virtual drive] not listed in DM either. Maybe those are the drivers for compiling the report?
I've been trying to get the tablet + LG to reliably burn data BUs for a year now - in between troubleshooting other stuff. Backup to ext HD needs to be backed up w/ backup to dvd. If I have a failing HD, and bad sectors in the folder that failed burning, I could have corrupted modified files that replaced the outdated but non-corrupt files w/ last night's backup. Ext HD space has limits but I can always buy another pack of DVDs.
winxp tablet w/ just os burner & w/out nero was unreliable burning to cd/dvd. [After I installed nero I unchecked the rclick on drive > Recording tab > enable CD recording on drive.] The LG +winxp tablet + different versions of nero has been mostly unsuccessful but w/ different problems each day so there was no pattern.
With this latest nero install I burned a data CD w/out problem, but when I tried to "create data cd" w/ one of nero's tools to run tests on the drive I got a "track following error". Now the LG [has latest firmware] is consistently failing to recognize blank cds while recognizing blank dvds, but my cds are "old" and my dvds are brand new.The LG has always been more "sensitive" about reading discs than the internal cenodynes in my Dell.
Should I uninstall nero and install "simpler" more- up-to-date burning software to test the LG - maybe CDBurnerXP? Or should I uninstall nero ultra and reinstall nero 6 oem that came w/ the LG? I occasionally had problems, but it did burn data dvds more often than it failed.
