Hi, I hope I'm posting this in the right section. I'm in Canada and I'm looking to buy an external CD/DVD burner because my laptop burner no longer works properly. I've narrowed my choices down to two burners, one made by Sony and another made by Plextor.
I'm an occasional lurker on this forum and I've heard good things about Plextor in the past but it seems like I see more negative comments lately, so that's one reason why I'm confused. I will primarily be burning CD-Rs so I thought I would mention that in case that makes a difference.
The two burners I've narrowed it down to are the Plextor PX-610U Burner and the Sony DRX-S70U Burner. Here is a link to each (I'm just linking to that online retail site to provide more information about the burners I'm asking about):
I see that the Sony burner is favourably reviewed here on CD Freaks so I must say that I'm leaning toward it. Here is the link to the review:
I can't find any reviews on this particular Plextor and, as I said, I'm confused about whether Plextor still makes a quality product.
Also, for fellow Canadians, what is the best Canadian online site to buy an external burner? From what I can see there aren't too many options. I know that I can get the Sony burner at Staples.ca so if I choose that one that is where I'll likely buy it from.
So: the Sony or the Plextor?
Thanks for any help, it will be greatly appreciated.
