Sony Vaio laptop doesn\'t write DVD-RWs (Pioneer DVR-K16)

[qanda]This thread is about the Pioneer DVR-K16. Click here to see full specs[/qanda]Hello, this is my first time here ,and my first forum post . I’am not sure how this works so i’ll just ask my question? I’ve had a vaio laptop for 6 months and now it’s decided not to write to dvd-rw .It used to? It still writes to normal dvds ,i’ve tried nero and roxio although they reconize the drives ability to write too dvd-rw ect . Also they reconize the DVD-RW and try to write to it but quicky fail.I’ve also tried several different brands of media. So anyway hope someone can help.

Welcome to the forum

What brands of RW disc have you tried? Laptop drives can be a little more picky that their desktop counterparts.

Can you try another RW burn in Nero, and if it fails, it should ask if you want to save an error log - say yes, and post the log here, so we can see what’s going wrong

Thx for helping , Ok i’am using Verbatim and have tried sony and Pioneer and some others. This is from Roxio Digital media>Sense: 03 ASC: 73 ASCQ: 03 (Command 00)

Px.dll: 2.7.33.500
pxdrv.dll: 1.1.79.0
PxMas.dll: 2.7.33.500
PxSFS.DLL: 2.7.33.500
PxWave.dll: 2.7.33.500
pxwma.dll: 1.0.0.3
So hope this helps ,i dumped nero after it would’nt work but am downloading it again if you need its error log, will post it aswell asap

Hmm, I’m not very good with Roxio error logs or codes, so a Nero one would be preferred if you could try it :flower:

But you’re using the best media, so I doubt very much that’s the problem - hopefully a detailed Nero log will tell us a bit more about system settings and so on.

When i close Roxio i get a Mediahub.exe-Application error.>The instruction at "0x0039b720"referenced memory at "0x8037a720"The memory could not be written> When i click on that it says Microsoft visual c++ Runtime library, Runtime error! Program…common files/sonic shared/sonic central/main/mediahub.exe R6025 -Pure virtual function call ? But i can still write to DVDs and i don’t think i get that with nero and i have also reformatted laptop but it didnt help. Will have nero log in sec.

I’m no software expert, but that sounds like a bug in the program itself.

Hopefully the log will shed some light

Hope this i

s what you are talking about

Yep, that’s the one

But I can’t see anything wrong  (apart from the burn failing, of course!)

Media = good, DMA = on, you’re not overburning…

Have you tried a full format of the media prior to writing, rather than the quick format shown in the log?

Not sure , tried using new disks though , but this is the problem , right now i’am doing the same project exactly with Verbatim DVD-r and it works ?

Well, that’s odd (but good that the drive can still burn successfully).

I’m stumped, I have to say, especially since you’ve used new, good discs.

If the Vaio is still under warranty, I’d contact the manufacturer, because that doesn’t seem right.

Thank you for helping me , with now larger memery sticks i don’t even really need RWables but it gets to me that there is something wrong and i keep trying to figure it out  Most people i ask think it’s weird that it’s only the RW not working, anyway no warranty left so maybe i try and contact Sony or do you think Pioneer, anyway thanks again for trying to fix my problem.

Try ImgBurn (free). First try a ‘Full Erase’ with it and see how that goes.
