Sony pushes out PS3 DRM to halt illegal movie playback.

[newsimage]http://static.rankone.nl/images_posts/2010/08/1o7qG7.jpg[/newsimage]It just got a bit more difficult to watch illegally downloaded Blu-ray movies on the Sony PS3. Sony appears to have pushed a firmware update, which includes Cinavia DRM protection, to PS3 consoles.

Please note that the reactions from the complete site will be synched below.

I didn’t know the ps3 could play bluray backups? interesting. I suppose if you used dual layer discs ,the audio would be a 1 for 1 backup. but if you compress it to fit on a single disc it would create issues>?

kinda sucks for anyone that makes legal backups though… those people who don’t want their kids putting the original discs in the microwave or something.

Luckily, not many people will be able to play Bluray backups from their HDD’s, after sony’s new PS3 firmware prevents people from replacing the current midget HDD’s to a decent sized capacity anyway :stuck_out_tongue:

Another good reason not to buy a PS3…

The difference is that was an accident (bug). Sony has provided a workaround solution and they have not stated any intentions of disabling the users’ ability to upgrade to larger HDD’s.

Oops, we’ve DRM’d you again …

Burn Sony, burn

LOL. Stupid Fan boys…Any respectable PS3 owner know they can bypass the
DRM on Blu-ray with a little know how. DRM should stand for Dumb Ridiculous Morons. DRM is pointless. Will you please read the last paragraph before you post.

cleverrick
could you elaborate on the way to bypass the DRM and the Cinavia watermark in that disables the audio in your backup copy of a DVD played in the PS3.
Is there a way to downgrade the PS3 effectively?
Will disconnecting from the internet or playstation network while playing back have any affect? I can play the same dvd on other “clean” players, but i am ideally wanting to use the ps3 for playing of my backups without issue.
can you help? thanks gene
