Sony Nec Optiarc AD-7191s scans

I got this drive yesterday, and tried to burn a dvd+r at 20x, but it didn’t do it at 20x, here is then writing image with DiscSpeed (it’s not simulation, because upon starting discspeed notified that it cannot simulate on this media).
also the quality test of this burned dvd is great, in comparison to my older 1653 that never gave such results with same media at 16x writing.

Only DVD-R is allowed to simulate.

I just noticed that Newegg is carrying the AD-7190S. I assume this is a Liteon made drive, but the question is, which Liteon? Is this roughly the Liteon20A1S?

The AD-719X series is equivalent to the Liteon DH-20A3X series. So I guess the AD-7190S is the clone of DH-20A3S.

That sounds logical, and the same thought had occurred to me, BUT…

I have never seen, or heard mention of, any SATA drives in the 20A3x series. 20A3P and 20A3H, both in IDE, but no SATA models. In SATA, they have the 20A1S, which is distinctly different from the 20A3x.

20A3S ( SATA ) and 20A3L ( SATA Lightscribe ).

The chipset change from MT1858 ( PATA ) to MT1859 ( SATA ).

so what you guys think?
these drives any good?

They should be good, it is the same drive as the Liteon 20A3P, only with a SATA interface and Nec firmware. “Wind” from Liteon has been very active over in the Liteon forum, and has released several test firmwares for the 20A3P, and at least one for the SATA version. The test firmware for the 20A3P cross-flashes easily to the Nec 7190 (ide version).

AND… Newegg has this drive for $25.99 with free shipping as we speak… (7190S, that is, not the 7191S).
