Sony Laptop DVD Burners

Hi

I’m new to the forum and I’m hoping someone can point me in the right direction.

I’ve got a Sony Vaio laptop - VGN S5XP and the DVD has packed up. The DVD is a Matshita UJ832D.

Does anyone know where I could purchase a new one?

The drive was working ok up to the time I caught the drive with the drawer open and bent the slide mechanism. Forcing the drive back seems to have damaged it - hence the need for a new unit.

Maybe not a Matshita, but you could probably find a nice slim NEC that would be a great replacement.

I don’t know much about UK computer stores, but http://svp.co.uk/products-solo.php?pid=861 looks good to me.

Honestly, stay away from Matshita.
They only sell OEM drives, never give support (of course) and deny the VENDOR RESET in case the drive has become region locked.

Regionfree is also practiacally impossible with this drives…
