Sony Handycam dropped before disc was finalized

During our daughter’s birthday our Sony handcam was knocked off a table before the disc could be finalized. The DVD holder popped open and battery came out. Now the camera can’t read the disc but the disc has the data lines on it.

Is there anyway to recover the data? Should we finalize the disc?
Any help would be appreciated.

I hate to say this, but once you interrupt the disc writing process, the disc is useless. You may be able to find some special tools to read the raw data off the disc as an emergency recovery, but you won’t be able to do anything with it normally using standard equipment or software.
