Sony Firmware's Effect on 811s

Does the new Sony firmware have any implications for the 811s? I know that Sony and LiteOn are in some kind of pact. I figured the new firmware might mean that we’ll get to see 8x DVD-R and 4x DVD-RW on 811s. Maybe just wishful thinking.

NO there is nothing the 530a f/w means to the 811s the 530a is pure Optorite built for sony, and built before sony and lite-on got together.

the 530a is like the apple to 811s orange. they are different as day and night.

Actually, the DRU-530A is manufactured by Optorite. It’s a DD0401

does this mean that we will soon be able to flash our 811s to burn dvd-r and 8x?

#5

NO it means we wont!!!

The point is the drive talked about above is not a 811s , I have no idea how the lie got started , the 530a and 811s are not even made by the same company the parts in the drives are alien to each other.

damn ok i shoulda read the whole thing. what about firmware from an 812s?

#7

812s is not the same hardware inside as the 811s in fact it has sony laser in it,

so again no the 812s firmware will not work on 811s it is not the magic bullet to give us 811s -r 8x
