[qanda]This thread is about the Panasonic DMR-EZ47VK. Click here to see full specs[/qanda]I've burned off a lot of VCR tapes onto +R DVDs on a Sony RDR-VX560 (may not be that exact #, but similar model). After that machine died, we purchased a Panasonic DVD recorder, DMR-EZ48V. The DVDs will not play on the Panasonic and the message on the screen makes it look like they aren't finalized. The DVDs will play on my computer, but not on my cheap old DVD player (Apex)
Things that I've tried based on this forum & the user manuals of both machines:
1. Finalization: I purchased a Sony RDR-VX560 to test the verification and it really appears that we DID finalize the DVDs originally (I cannot get the Disk Setting or Title List to allow me to make any modifications). DVDs play fine on this machine.
2. Copy Speed: I verified that the recording mode that I used on the Sony matches recording mode on the Panasonic, so I don't think that is the issue on all of the DVDs (some probably were recorded on non-supported modes, but that's not the case all the time.
3. DVDs recorded were generally Verbatim DVD+R 16x. I am able to use and burn the same exact DVDs on the Panasonic, just not most of the ones we created on the Sony.
4. DVDs in good condition, Panasonic player about 1 year old and working well otherwise.
Does anyone have suggestions of other things that I should try? I really don't want to keep the Sony (really bad reliability on the old one) nor only play our recordings on my computer.
Unfortunately, we discarded most of the videotapes after we copied them, so cannot just burn new copies, unless I do it on my PC.
