I've read that my sony dw-d26a has the same hardware of liteon 1673s.I've haven't found the new sony firmware so I tried to update using the new firmware for liteon1673s, but the program refused to update because it haven't found a liteon hardware! How can I use liteon firmware??
That is true. All Sonys are rebadged Liteons but that does not mean you can flash them with Liteon firmware. Some oem models are different and have to be flashed with the correct firmware or you will damage your drive. Google your drive and see what you can find. I will bet this site has a lot to offer if you do a search.
May I use the new firmware for DRU 720A (JY03) found here ?Sony dw-d26a = Sony DRU 720A = Liteon 1673S ??
Try these guys.
I've seen that site, my hardware is non listed, but there are DRU 720A and liteon 1673S that have the same firmware code (first letter J, second letter: S for liteon, Y for Sony). I remember that my DVD RW has the same firmware code too (JYxx) but now I cannot control, because I'm at work.... Can I update with the DRU720A firmware???
Based on these posts you can flash to the 1673 or even the 1693.
Thank you Chas0039.The first post is the answer to my question.
OK, I think I have all I need to update the firmware of my burner, (omnipatcher, the unscrambled firmware from codeguys, firmware flasher to backup my actual firmware, eeprom utility), tomorrow I'll try...
If you backup the firmware already on your drive it will create a .bin file on your HD. Just name it and save it. Good luck. These things usually go just fine but read all the warnings.
Not nice to edit a question while I am answering it. Makes me look senile.
Sorry.... But a few minutes after my post, in the "italian chat" I had the answer to my problem, so, I edited the post...Thank you Chas0039
Now my burner has new firmware JS07.Thank you codeguys.
Without all the efforts here, Liteon drives would be nowhere near as fun as they are.
Just look at all the stuff you can do with the new Omnipatcher. Makes me want a 16X Liteon just so I can mess around and pretend I'm a programmer.
