Now, this drive is a 1673 Liteon, right?
Is there any advantage to switching to 1673 firmware?
Also, can I upgrade to 1693?
Am I correct in assuming that 1693 may or may not work?
If it doesn't work, can I simply flash it back to my OEM BIOS (I assume OmniPatcher has a tool for backing up my BIOS) and have it work again?
I'm not really concerned about writing above 8x, but about quality.
For my last burn my values were PI avg 201/max 596/total 3194448, which isn't too good. I'm trying to use them on a PS2, which is more sensitive, so every little bit counts.
I'm also using ProdiscF01 media, if that means anything. Would making my drive write ProdiscF01 as ProdiscF02 (reassigning write strategy), improve quality? I know it could write the F01 at 16x instead of 8x then, but I'm not interested in that, I'm just wondering if writing it as a F02 would give it a better burn.
Who knows, I just flashed it to 1693S, it said it was a success, and I'm gonna test it soon and see if write quality improves any.
Thanks.
