Sony DVP-S7700-Hack

I’m wondering if someone have a hack or know something about it.I have tried on dvdrhelp some did not give any response on my standalone.Those things with a remote control not work on my Sony.

all new sony’s same to need a chip to get hacked. You won’t find a remotecontrol hack

If you are lucky to have an early unit on the main board are two switches labeled S001, defeats macrovision, and S002, defeats region.

There is also a procedure using a Palm Pilot.

Here is a copy/pase from someone else’s procedure:

You need a PDA running the Palm OS. I used a IBM WorkPad (a.k.a Palm III).
You need the OmniRemote application from Pacific Neo-Tek.
Then you need the OmniRemote style I made.
Put your DVD-player to standby mode (main power on and red light).
Push programmed buttons sequentially from one to five (the player starts up).
Do it again: Push programmed buttons sequentially from one to five (the player goes back to standby).
The player should now be multiregion.
Though I had to do it a few times, and you might have to push the buttons two times for it to work.

Bote that the pre-made hack in this file does not work for the 305! I tried it first and it did not work for me. You need to use the codes below.

Any palm pilot will do. Create a new section for the DVD player and create 5 buttons. Number the buttons 1 -> 5.

Use the advanced->databases [export category] to export the data to memopad. Sync you palm and paste the data into memo pad form.

Resync your palm and then start omniremote. Use advanced->databases [import category] and import the updated config.

Note you can also key the numbers straight into memopad if you want (I did it this way as I used a freind’s Palm and he didn’t have his sync cable).

Then copy the power button used elsewhere in the pdb file into the screen you have just created as for the 305 you need to press the five buttons then the power button for the mod to work.

Use the power button to toggle the DVD on and off to check correct operation of the software / Palm Pilot.

Next with the DVD player in standby (no disc) press button 1 -> 5 either once or twice in turn e.g. 1,1,2,2,3,3,4,4,5,5 or 1,2,3,4,5 (in the excitement I forgot which way I did it!). Then press the power on button. If it has worked the DVD player will switch on and show “SUCCESS” on the display. Then press the power button once more and the hack is done.

It is interesting to note that after I got the “success” display I tried to play a R4 DVD and it did not work. However once I powered off then on again from the front panel the mod worked - funny you had to reboot for the changes ot take effect - very MS!

Congratulations, you now have a hacked DVD player that can play multiregion disks.

Are you saying that if i would like too hack my standalone,that i could not do this with my remote control.Or i need for all this things.Can you explain.

Well, for the first mentioned procedure, if you have the first version, you need to look for that switch, it may be internal.

For the second you need a palm pilot which has a free software which acts as a remote, that you can program with the codes mentioned before, and hack the player that way.

Thirdly, there is another special remote by phillips, called a phillips pronto which can do this.

For your last questions, NO you can not do this with the remote unit you have now.

Also, as mentioned by damiandimitri, you can buy a chip which once again would require for yuo to open the unit to install it.

most new sony dvd players are already region free, even though they say they are for a specific region, they aren’t! they are region free. Just put in a different region dvd and try it before you go stuffin around with it.

I have allready tried this.It seems like they dont work on my unit wich is from 1999.I know if i put a chip in my standalone that could be a regionfree.I did it with my Pioneer for 6 years ago.But i’m wery interesting about a Sony DVP-S7700.

To be honest, I am in the midst of a problem myself trying to hack a new Sony DVD Player my friend got, model DVP-ns325 and everything I found was means by an outside remote. I tried my region 4 DVD and it wouldnt go. I think sony’s higher end models maybe region free by default. I tried the website link provided above. No help. I am burrowing another friends Palm Pilot to try that, I hope it succeeds.

anyone here knows how to hack sony dav-s550 without the need of using a special remote, or chips, or IR ports, or pda?

I have read in one website that they provide a step on how to use the original remote to hack sony dav-s550… they need to be payed though… but this got me to thinking that it IS possible to hack the sony dvd player using the original remote only… I am not sure though how reliable this website is…

any idea?
