Sony DVD-RW weird problem

vbimport

#1

I recently bought a Sony DVD-RW DW-D23A … it can read DVD’s, CD’s anything … no problem here … the problem comes when I try to burn a DVD with it … when I insert a blank, it appears like “CD Drive” ===> http://photobucket.com/albums/b162/TotalHit/?action=view&current=inainte.jpg

I tried installing some new drivers for the mobo but it didn’t work…

My PC:
EpoX 8RDA3I nForce2 Ultra
Barton 2500+
256 RAM
GeForce FX 5200
Western Digital 20 GB

#2

ive read on several other threads that that is normal and windows xp cant recognize it the right way but that shouldnt disturb burning software, personally i dont see any burning problems here use burning software like nero/copytodvd and it should go good

edit : btw 256mb isnt enough at all these days, you should think bout getting more ram

#3

the problem is that I’m having problem writting stuff on DVD’s with Nero or other programs … it keeps saying “Burning Failed” … once, I tried for like 5 times to write something and finally I burned the DVD … it worked at my place, but when I went to a friend, it didn’t work there …

#4

there could be various reasons,i need logs to figure em out
open C:\Program Files\Ahead\Nero\NeroHistory.log thats the burning log copy & paste the latest but dont include nero’s serial, also run nero infotool and click the floppy icon and click save open the saved textfile and copy & paste

that isnt the full nero infotool log but i got what i need,3 things

a) dma is off in all devices, that makes em much slower and is a good reason for burning to fail, see this guide http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=101616

b) 256mb isnt enough these days,53MB free ram isnt much i cant say 100% that it can cause the burn to fail but its possible and regarless there will be a huge performance boost with extra ram

c) that nero version is very old grab the latest from
http://www.filemirrors.com/search.src?file=Nero-6.6.0.15a.exe&size=34219568

#7

there’s a problem with the DMA thing : DMA Thing

#8

uninstall nvidia ide driver from add/remove programs in control panel

#9

I did that and my Windows went wild, starting to not recognise my video card, my on-board LAN thing etc. now it’s stable and everything is now on the DMA thing … so this means it’s going to work now ?

#10

i tought the nvidia ide driver can be removed seperatly and not along with the entire chipset driver at least thats what i saw on google didnt you saw “nvidia ide driver” listed in the addremove list?,anyway no its not a sure thing there isnt alot of ram and that might fail the burn try to burn and well see

#11

no, there wasn’t any nVidia IDE driver on the Add/Remove … Windows still has the “CD ROM” problem described earlier

OH SWEET MOTHER OF GOD ! IT’S WRITTING ! IT’S WRITTING !!!

Phil, thanks a million, I think it’s finally coming along … thank you again !
