Sony Dual Writers

Hey
cdrlabs has a review up of the new dru500a
it looks good people!

http://www.cdrlabs.com/reviews/index.php?reviewid=154

check it out!

I get mine this week. I read many reviews, some good, some not that good. It seems there is not much software support at the moment.
But that will change.

I wouldn’t sell your Lite-On CD-RW quite yet because the DRU-500A doesn’t support EFM.
Will they ever learn what EFM is

Will they ever learn what EFM is

Propably not!!

The only question I have about this review… Where is he getting this 5.5.9.16 and 3.51 version of Nero and InCD respectfully? It isn’t listed on Nero’s site. I’ve had lots of problems lately writing any more then 3GB or so to DVD-R’s… heard problems of this from other people as well… so I’m not sure whats going on.

nero 5.5.9.16 is a leaked beta

EFM will only effect burning PC games eg: SD@ etc right ?

Backing up your DVDs, PS2Games and XBox games should still work with it ?

Well, it has been explained in the technical forum…the idea this guy wanted to express was that the Sony DRU500A cannot write sectors which can easily lead to a high DSV in a readable way.

Till now, it only affects SafeDisc 2

Today i will get my dvd burner from the postoffice. Feel like an happy child

WIll post results when i have it…or backup up some cd’s.

Bought already some different types of media (+rw , -r and -rw).

On doom9, they’ve said that the Sony has more problems with crap media than Pioneer burners.

nti 's cd burning software now supports the sony dru500a

We reported earlier in the week that Verbatim had done a recall on DVD media as it was incompatible with the new Sony DRU-500 DVD writer. An industry insider tells us that the Nec MultiSpin ND-1100A dual format drive ( which is based on the same technology as the Sony drive ) has similar issues and many well known brands of media are incompatible with the drive.

VEFF at CDRLabs forum has listed Sony DRU-500A-compatible DVD media.

You can get Nero 5.5.9.17 from Nero download page if you haven’t.

FWIW, DRU-500A has been supported by Nero since 5.5.9.13, but DVD/RW performance is better with 5.5.9.17.

4x DVD-R/2x DVD-RW/2.4x DVD+R/2.4x DVD+RW for a little under 50,000 Yen (about US$400) in Akiba, Tokyo.

4x DVD-R/2x DVD-RW Pioneer DVR-A05 for a little under 30,000 Yen (about US$250) in Akiba, Tokyo.

The Record Now that comes with the Sony does what DVD X Copy is rumored to do,make copies with one caveat:copy
protection is in full force. If this can be cracked it would in theory work just as well or better than DVD X Copy. I made
5 copies of a non=copy protected disc with the Sony, but when I tried Blade 2
well,suffice it to say,i didn’t copy Blade 2
… :a

Personally, I am neither for nor against copying commercial DVD games and movies regardless of the purpose. Whenever I buy music CD, video CD, or electronic encyclopedia CD, the first thing I do is to make an exact copy of the disk, at least two or more for each. I keep the original disks somewhere safer and use the backup disks for daily use.

Isn’t the RecordNow bundled with Sony drive 4.x version? Where did you get the rumor that it can do what DVD X Copy is supposed to do?

My best guess is that… from Nero, personally through email. Anyway, 5.5.9.17 official Nero release and 3.40 internal FTP InCD work fine together for me now.

recordnow is delivered with the drive…yes

there is also a tool called dvd-clone that makes back-ups of dvd
(5 on one disk and dvd 9 on 2 disks)
