Sony DRU-840A SS01 will not Burn DVD in DMA Mode

My new DRU-840A SS01 does not recognize Memorex DVD+R or Memorex DVD+R DL media. I changed the secondary IDE channel to PI0 from Ultra-2 DMA and it burns the media fine now but very slowly.

Hi,

at first, keep in mind that Memorex is not considered as quality media.

Secondly, if I remember correctly, then these Sony branded Samsung drives are UDMA 4 units. So it is mandatory to use an 80wired IDE cable, device manager should show UDMA 4 instead of UDMA 2.

Your issue might be related to an unsufficient IDE cable.

Michael

Thanks, that did the trick. I now have two secondary IDE channels one DMA4 and one DMA5. I burned one DVD folder perfectly on Memorex DL and then the next one failed and I got a coaster. I tried the same folder again and it burned the DVD perfectly.

The trouble started when I ordered 40 Memorex DL and 100 Memorex DVD+R such a good deal! I remembered the old commercials, "Is it real or is it Memorex, they used to have a great reputation in sound recording.

Hi,
Thanks, that did the trick.
You’re Welcome

These days are gone. Memorex optical media is average at best :frowning:

Now it gives Error=116 and kicks the Memorex DVD+R DL out with just a small percentage of the disc burned, (and ruined). I tried MAIN movie with a Memorex DVD+R RW and it burned and played fine.

Tiger direct did replace a bunch of Memorex DVD+R before when I was having problems…but the new ones give the same problems…one movie will burn fine then the next one gives me a coaster, fortunately or unfortunately the Memorex DVD+R DL are almost gone, but I have a set of 20 coasters now!

Time to buy quality DL: Verbatim.

@ BlaineIII,

Memorex Media is not noted for quality error free results and Memorex DL Media is even worse.

If you desire consistent quality error free DL Burning results Verbatim MKM001/MKM003 Mitsubishi Kagaku Media is the only DL Media that can provide this results.

Throw ALL of your garbage Memorex Media away and only use known proven quality Media such as Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim Media. Tiger Direct isn’t the best place to purchase Media. Rima.Com (http://rima.com) is an excellent source for Taiyo Yuden Media which in many circles is considered top of the line quality proven Media.

Where are the Verbatim disks made? India or Singapore?

If I may ask you to waste one more disc, can you burn the VIDEO_TS folder with ImgBurn [Build Mode]? If it issues an error, please post that log, too. :flower:

EDIT: Also, can you ensure that there is enough data for 2 layers’ worth of data? just enough to make ImgBurn try to burn to the second layer. It could be that Nero isn’t setting the layer break properly.

@BlaineIII,

Suggest not Burning your Media at Maximum Speed but Burning your Media at a speed slightly slower/lower than Maximum Speed.

Also suggest completely and thoroughly removing the N e r o InCD Packet Writing software program which has a well-documented history of causing numerous conflict Burning error problems.

Regards,
bjkg

As suggested, wipe Incd!

Also, to which controller is your burner connected?

CdRomPeripheral : SONY DVD RW DRU-840A atapi Port 3 ID 0 DMA: On

Singapore. I burned the folder/files but it will not play in my DVD player. I cannot find a log, where does it normally deposit itself? It said it did not produce a menu DVD movie. It said something about burning an ISO/Joliet file but I see a dvd video folder but the vob files are OUTSIDE the folder on the dvd.

I do not want to delete INCD as all my DVD authoring and burning software will not operate when it is disabled, also I would loose my Nero 7 as INCD is part of that and there is no way to remove it serparately.

Yes, the DVD folders I am trying to burn are over 7 gigs.

@ BlaineIII,

Unfortunately you are incorrect and misinformed. With N e r o v7.2.0.3 you can selectively just remove the InCD Packet Writing software program. You do not need to totally remove the entire N e r o software package to remove the InCD Packet Writing software program and N e r o functions and operates just fine with the InCD Packet Writing software removed.

It should also be noted that the most current version of N e r o version 7 is version 7.11.6.0 which is available for download at ->

Thank you, I did some research and found that technically you are correct and I had already tried to remove INCD but failed and this caused the secondary IDE channel to be disabled which caused the system to not recognize my DVD Burner. I did a system restore and corrected this problem. So I removed Nero 7 completely and burned two DVD folders successfully on Memorex DVD DL using PIO. I tried using DMA but again failed to burn the DVD on Memorex. I had found before that simply disabling the INCD would cause ALL DVD burners to fail to work. When INCD is installed I have to have it loaded in order to for ANY DVD burner to work, removing it solved the problem at least as long as I use PIO.

I tried IMG Burn and burned the Video folder which left the files OUTSIDE the folder but the DVD will not play on my stand alone DVD player. It burned the DVD as an ISO/Joliet file at least that is what it said it was going to do. I could not find a log anywhere I did a search for logs and txt files, where is the log supposed to be and is it automatically recorded?

Yes I am using folders that over over 7 gigs, large enough for DL.

IMG Burn says it will NOT create a playable DVD in any case it is not designed for that.

I cannot remove the message so I just removed the body of the message

When dragging the Video_TS folder over, it should ask if you meant to burn as a video disc, and it should automatically make it compatible. If dragging and dropping the Video_TS folder itself doesn’t do that, try going up a level and drag-n-drop the folder that houses Video_TS.

I’ve done it before, and it worked swimmingly.

To get the log: Open up ImgBurn, select “View>>Log”. Save that.

If you want to continue to have problems then keep INCD but don’t complain. If you want help then get rid of INCD or you can continue to burn coasters it is up to you

@ BlaineIII,

In reference to your #15 posting it is clearly apparent that your present N e r o installation is causing problems. Until you correct your current N e r o installation problems you will continue to experience Burning problems.

Suggest thoroughly and completely removing your current N e r o installation by using the N e r o Clean Tool (http://www.nero.com/enu/support-nero7-tools-utilities.html) which is specifically designed by N e r o to correctly repair Windows Registry corruption error problems when an incorrect N e r o installation error problem occurs.

Then if you desire to continue to use N e r o v7 then install the most current up to date N e r o version 7.11.6.0 (http://www.nero.com/enu/downloads-nero7-update.php) paying close attention during the installation process not to install N e r o InCD or any other unnecessary bloated extraneous N e r o programs. During the N e r o installation process use the “Custom” option to selectively install only the specifically desired N e r o programs.

Once again until you properly correct Windows Registry corruption problems caused by an incorrect N e r o installation you will continue to experience Burning problems.

bjkg
