Sony DRU-720A and Nero, Getting Illegal Disc Errors

vbimport

#1

Hello All. I’m hoping someone can help me with my DVD issues.

I have a Sony DRU-720A (with the latest firmware) and am trying to burn a picture slide show onto a DVD-R using Nero 6.6.0.14. However, I keep getting illegal disc errors at 6%. I was originally using Memorex 8X DVD-R’s and just purchased Sony 8X DVD-R’s and am having the same issue. The slide show is no where near large enough to fill the dvd. Any suggestions? If you need more info, let me know.

Your Error is: “CANNOT WRITE MEDIUM . INCOMPATIBLE FORMAT”
Your Choice of Disc: “CMC MA - G. AE1” Even though Branded Sony, these disc’s are actually made by CMC Magnetics. These discs arent even good enough for landfill.(although I have had rare exceptions with them) Memorex are made by a different manufacturer every other week, so its pot luck. Go with Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim or TDK (among others) and be sure to have flashed to current firmware.

#5

One would think that if Sony branded these DVD’s, they would be compatable with their burners. I’ll try one of the three you recommended. Thanks for replying. I’ll let you know if it works.

#6

Well, I picked up a few Verbatim DVD-R’s and tried them. Same error, illegal disc. I’m trying to find someone with a blank DVD+R to try one, rather than buying a stack of them. However, I would like to be able to burn to the -R media. Any more suggestions?

#7

Here’s an update. I was able to get a few DVD+R media, and I cna burn to those just fine. So, is there a setting that I am over looking when I am trying to burn to the -R media?

#8

Yo-

Sony and LiteOn burners have been known to write better to +R discs (my LiteOn 1693s does)

So go with it IMO-

Mike

#9

Thanks Pollushon. Thanks Mike. I appreciate your responses.

Just in case someone else is having the same problem I am, I’m going to post a little more.

I downloaded another burning program, Sonic RecordNow Delux 7.0 (I know, not the best in the world, but it would work for what I was trying). I tried to burn the same files onto a DVD-R, that would not burn with NERO to a DVD-R, and it worked fine. I’m guessing it is a setting in NERO, but I don’t know which one or even where to start looking. So for now, if I want to burn to DVD-R, I’ll use Sonic. If I want to burn to DVD+R, I’ll use NERO.

Talk to you all later.
