I just bought a sony dru-530 dvd burner +R 8x.
On a amd xp 2200 512 MB msi kt3 ultra 2.
Wee bit of a learning curve.
Had lot of bumps in this install
I did upgrade the firmware on the burner.
Did not disable DMA as recomd.
(missed that for some reason)
So I may haved Scr*wed the pouch and myself.
Anybody know if this misstep was cruical ???????
But the software said it was successful.
Reason for firmware upgrade was it gives me
8X on -R's, 4x on -RW and better media compatability.
I have no 8X -R,-RW media to see effect.
Utility on USA site to check for problems but recommend
for U.S. drives only. (me, canuck)
First 4 discs were coasters.
Or the verification function would tell me error -47010.
I upgraded the Recordnow app that I was burning with
and solved that problem. I thought it was the media
ridata (Ritek 4.7GB DVD+R 25 Spindle 8x) so I bought some
Optodisc or470 dvd-r 4x. They turned out to be worse
than the former. Recordnow hates them and says try another type
of media as an error message, but they work with Sonic MyDVD.
The problem I found was the Mpeg-1's that took 4 attempts to
burn to a DVD as data (or get verifed properly) refused to play off the same dvd drive
using the same app I use when reading from the hard drive.
The Video was just too jerky like as if it could not read them fast enough.
Is this the case???????
Retail movies play fine.
I used dvdinfo pro and the disc was read at an avg. 5.69X and peak 8.23X.
And got avg of 8x on a movie dvd-rom peaked at 11X.
Sony specs say it to be 12x on dvd-roms 8x on dvd-r+r's.
thx in advance.
