I just built a brand new system and installed a Sony DRU-510A burner. I have an odd problem where the Sony DRU-510A doesn't seem to recognize DVD-RW discs. It works like a champ with DVD+RW discs and I haven't had a chance to try DVD-R or DVD+R's yet. I'm running Windows XP Professional SP1. I also have a plethora of CD & DVD software installed and I've never had any conflicts with any of the programs. I currently have Nero Ultra 6.0, CloneDVD, DVDXCopy, DVDXCopy XPress, CloneCD, Blindread/Blindwrite, Easy CD Creator. I've used the Nero Info Tool with an Imation DVD-RW disc installed and it won't recognize the disc. Also, CloneDVD, DVDXCopy and DVDXCopy XPress won't recognize that there is a disc in the drive either. All of the above mentioned programs work flawlessly with DVD+RW discs. I did not install any software that came with the Sony drive because of all of the conflicts I've read about. I loaned one of these Imation DVD-RW discs to a friend who also has the Sony DRU-510A and the same motherboard I have. He has an older version of Nero, but the Nero Info tool did recognize the disc. He burned to the disc without incident. I can't understand what is different and why mine won't recognize the discs. We've both installed the latest Adaptec Aspi layer v4.71, but I think that is irrelevent because all of the programs recognize the drive. I'm using firmware version 1.0C as well.
If anyone has any ideas, I would love to hear them. This problem is driving me insane. Thanks!
