i have recently purchased sony crx230ee-88 cd rewriter drive. i want to know that it is oem of which liteon model. also give me a link to flasher of liteon drive

#2

It’s hard to tell from just the drive model because Sony has been sticking to the same 230 number for a number of different LiteOn drives (because although the underlying model and hardware changed, the specs are still the same).

Please provide us with a full report on the drive. You can use either DISCInfo (discinfo.rpc1.org) or Nero InfoTool. In both cases, save a report to a text file and then paste the contents into your post.

Only this drive has a similar firmware to yours. 4YS1

I suggest you wait for Code65536’s answer.

#5

Thanks for confirming what I suspected about this drive. Since EE comes after ED, I thought that it might’ve been a 5239S. For LiteOn drives, the first letter/number of the firmware version string generally indicates the drive family.

CRX230E: 52327S (v1) - firmwares start with “Q”
CRX230ED: 5238S - firmwares start with “4”
CRX230EE: 5239S - firmwares start with “2”

So this model is probably a LiteOn SOHR-5239S. There is remote chance that it might be a SOHR-5239V, but I’m 99% sure that it’s the 9S model and not the 9V model.

The latest firmware for this drive would be 2S09, which has an internal timestamp of 2005/05/04.

1/ Before doing anything, please BACK UP your firmware using LtnFW and send us a copy (see my sig for an e-mail addy)! Please do this because there are no copies of this 2YS1 firmware floating around anywhere.

2/ If you want to convert your drive into a SOHR-5239S and use the latest 2S09 firmware, you can do so by downloading the official 2S09 flasher from LiteOn, running it through FlashFix (see digi.rpc1.org) and then flashing it to 2S09.

3/ If you have the time and are willing, could you download KProbe 2.4.2 (not 2.4.3; .3 is buggy) and use its Drive Info tool to report the “FlashROM Manufacturer ID” and “FlashROM Device ID”.

Thank u very much code65536. i have converted drive using your suggestions and now my drive is LiteOn SOHR-5239S with firmware version 2S09 and it is working very fine.

Hmm. That’s odd. I wonder why KProbe didn’t report the “FlashROM Manufacturer ID” and “FlashROM Device ID”. scratches head

Did you make a backup of your firmware?

#8

i have made a backup. tried to attach file but file size is larger than allowable limit. give me a link or email address where i can upload that file.

#9

sent firmware backup as an attachment. please post your findings.

#10

Thanks for the file. We just wanted it for our collection (and in case anyone in the future requests it). There really isn’t anything to discover with these CD-burner firmwares.

#11

thank u for all your support

#12

cross flashed drive from LiteOn SOHR-5239S to SOHR-5239V and it is working very fine.

#13

Really?

Have you noticed anything different? My understanding was that the 9V used a different laser than the 9S and that they’re otherwise the same (so there shouldn’t be any benefit to this…)

#14

till yet i haven’t noticed any difference.

#15

burned more than 500 cds. didn’t find any problem.

#16

just wondering how could u burn all o these cd’s in this amount of time:sad:
seems tooooooooo fast indeed:p

anyway… i have this SONY CRX-320AE Combo that i newly bought… if i brought u it’s Info Tool or DiscInfo “Info”… would that help knowing it’s Lite-ON Equivalent??

#18

well… thanx code65536
i think i got a nice combo then… right?

#19

The 2K is not it… re-read the page again carefully, especially the final three entries and the “Is identified as ___ on the box” notes… subtle differences in the text translate to not-so-subtle differences in the drives.

have 8 drives of same model 4 each on 2 computers. 2 on internal IDE and other 2 are on external usb 2.0 casing.
