Sony AW-G170A Flashing problems

Hi guys, stumbled on to this website when i was looking around on google for solutions to my dvd drive problems. Basically i have had a look around through about 15 pages or so for the G170 topics and can’t seem to find a solution to the problem im having attempting to flash my drive.

The reason im trying to flash my drive is because i cannot seem to all of a sudden be able to burn any sort of disc successfully, i hadn’t actually used the drive for about 5 or 6 months for anything really prior to attempting to burn a disc the other day but ended up making a bunch of coasters.

Sony AW-G170A DVD-RW Drive firmware version 1.71

I have set the IDE Channel to PIO mode as has been suggested on other topics and tried to do the flashing in safe mode but neither seems to be any different to the other i keep getting the same errors.

I can dump a backup of the current firmware on it successfully, but when i attempt to flash it back onto it i get this error message, so i guess that ruled out any compatibility issues i guess.

I have also downloaded the original firmware and the rpc1 firmware off Liggy’s and Dee’s site. which give me the following errors.

Original 1.75 Firmware - http://img136.imageshack.us/img136/5033/error2ug2.jpg

RPC1 Firmware - http://img136.imageshack.us/img136/8057/error3yf0.jpg

PIO Mode Enabled - http://img158.imageshack.us/img158/1421/piojg7.jpg

I don’t know if ive missed out anything ive even tried the official Sony firmware installer and that starts and just says update failed after about 10 seconds and the drive just continues to flash and slows the computer down quite a fair bit and doesn’t stop or let me close it from task manager so i end up having to restart the computer.

The drive itself reads discs fine its just recently it hasn’t been burning to the discs that i have always used, but i can burn to the same discs on another computer.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

Flash the drive in safe mode at PIO.

Not being an arse or anything but i love how you didn’t read anything i actually wrote.

Anyway managed to solve it by just shoving it in another computer and doing the firmware update.
