Upscaling to 4K is little more than a gimmick at this point. Any 4K display will automatically scale to it’s native resolution, so this function in a player has limited value. It’s also not likely that a $250 player will do a better job of scaling than a $10,000 display, although anything is possible.
Now if the player actually supported playback of 4K video sources, that would be a different thing. (assuming any such sources existed)
But I’m sure everyone is excited to see their 480 streaming video scaled to 4K.
r o t f l m a o.
S o n y have moved from poor products & terrible support, to ridiculous products and bad support.
I guess they want to be first to say they support 4K (unless they’re not first). BTW this thing was announced 3 months ago at CES !
So THIS is the new feature for BR this year…4K upconverting ? I suppose native 4K blu ray is coming sooner than I thought. I’ve read it could be in the next year or 2 now. Alot of native 4K film content exists so no doubt they will want to exploit it.
Sony is quickly going down the toilet. Yeah, that’s really all I wanted to say. We’re better off if they’re gone anyway. For me, Sony is above murderers and below people who pick their noses in public.
