Sony 48x?

I’m an idiot !!!

The last time i bought Sony CD’s they were made by Taiyo Yuden , so when i found some 48x Sony’s cheap i thought it would be a good idea to buy them.

Afterwards i realised that those CD’s aren’t made by TY any more :

ATIP: 97m 24s 16f
Disc Manufacturer: Sony Corp.
Reflective layer: Dye (Short strategy; e.g. Phthalocyanine)
Media type: CD-Recordable
Recording Speeds: min. unknown - max. unknown
nominal Capacity: 702.83MB (79m 59s 74f / LBA: 359849)

So it this good or bad ?

PS : They are made in Malaisia.

i think these are the same discs a friend bought for me a few months ago. my burner wouldn’t allow me to select a higher burn speed than 40x, and even then it had C2 errors. not exactly the cream of the crop.

here’s a scan i saved.

The only good thing is that i have a Yamaha 16x writer and maybe at that slow speed it will have less or no errors.

Is there any diagnostic utility that can check for c1 and c2 errors ?

of course, how else would i have such a graph to attach?

if u have a lite-on burner, u can use kprobe or cd doctor. the new nero cd speed is supposed to be able to report C2 errors, but i don’t know how reliable it is (haven’t tried it yet myself) or what burners it’ll work for.

It has been a while since I have seen Taiyo Yuden’s sold under Sony’s name.

I don’t know of any for Yamaha; however that doesn’t mean one doesn’t exist. If you have a drive made by LiteOn, or Plextor you can use the one of the following utilities to check for c1 and c2 errors.

For LiteOn drives use Kprobe; It should also work with other drives made by LiteOn, e.g. some Sony, Memorex, etc.

For Plextor drives use PlexTools Professional.

USFlatliner’s post to install PlexTools Professional Upgrade.

That’s exactly why i said : “I’m an idiot”

i don’t see why that would have to mean u don’t also have a lite-on burner (or access to one).
