I recently got a NEC-3520A from newegg and I'm having some issues with the burn speed of DVD's..
For example, tonite I tried to write a couple DVD+R's (TDK 8X). Each one was about 4.2-4.5 gigs of data. First time, Nero came up with a 16X burn speed, so I said "ok" even though the media only says 8X. Started up burning, but burned reeeeeal slow. The "Read Buffer" goes down almost all the way, then the lite on the DVD-RW drive turns off, and the read buffer refills. A few seconds later, the lite on the DVD-RW drive goes back on. Rinse, lather, repeat
It seems to burn fine, it just takes really long. Took like 23 minutes to burn, and Nero estimated it would take about 3:50ish.
So next I tried to burn one @ 8X to see if that would work better (since the media only says 8X). Unfortunately, same results... about 22 - 23 minutes to burn.
I searched the forums and found some people suggesting that I check to make sure DMA is turned on. So I went to check that, and it is turned on, XP says it's currently operating in Ultra DMA Mode 2.
One other thing to add. Last nite, I tried updating my firmware to see if that would make a difference. It was on 1.04 when I received it, I flashed it w/1.25 found here: http://www.micheldeboer.nl/firmware/. I used nec3520_125.zip. Unfortunately, that didn't solve my problem either, so that's why I've come here
What can I do to speed up my burns...?
