Slooooow dvd burning with Liteon burner

Alright, I almost never post on forums to ask for help (I usually just lurk) but I’m at my wit’s end! I’m not terribly computer savvy so please, bear with me if I’m a little slow or don’t include on the needed info. I have a HP Pavilion 533w with Windows XP. I’ve been using a Liteon LH-16W1P DVD+R/+RW burner for the past few years. The other day, it finally died. I replaced the burner yesterday with the exact same model. To my knowledge, nothing about the burner is different from my old one. I always use Nero 7 to encode and burn my .avi files. Today, I tried burning a movie. After encoding (which takes a few hours, I know), it took approx 45 minutes to burn ONE copy of a movie I’ve already encoded. If I try to copy a movie, that takes about an hour and a half for ONE copy. It usually took about 15 minutes total. I can’t for the life of me figure out why this burner is so slow. I’ve adjusted the burner speed to max and even tried every other burn speed in between and it still reads & writes very very slow! ASPI is installed and the DMA settings are correct. Windows is not turning it off and switching to PIOS mode (had that problem before and figured out how to fix it). I attempt to burn & read two different brands of discs (Maxell & TDK) and still got the same slow results. The final result is watchable, there’s no burn errors or anything but, the entire process is so slow and annoying. I’ve also tried uninstalling the new dvd drive & the IDE channel thingys and they will reinstall but the burning process is still slow. My dvd burner is not my primary drive so I have no idea if that’s a problem or not. It never was in the past so I’m not sure if that needs to be changed. I’ve also included a log of one of the burns I did earlier so hopefully that will tell someone here what is going on because I’m totally lost! If any other info is needed, I’ll be more than happy to provide it. Thanks in advance to anyone that can help me!

Welcome to CD Freaks.

Your system must be running a little slow because of the following in the log:-

DiskPeripheral : WDC WD600AB-22CBA1 atapi Port 0 ID 0 DMA: Off

DMA is not enable on your HDD so drastically reducing the data flow rates. You need t enable this. Check out this thread or download the VB script in my signature & execute in in Explorer.

Normally we find that DMA is not enabled for the burners, rarely the HDD.

Wow…thanks. That was the problem. Everything is running great again. Thank you so much!
