Sky Media, cheap 4X -R that works

I just got 25 Sky Media 4X -R discs, about 60 cents each from www.yesbuy.net. Wonder of wonders, they work just fine.

A half-dozen flawless burns so far on my LiteOn 411S with firmware FSOF. (Actually a converted 401S, but that’s another story ;>)

These are Swiss-made AN32 discs. It’s etched on the center of each one. The media identifier info is included below.

They work in both my PC drives and two standalones, a Magnavox that will play anything and a Toshiba that plays -R only and is picky about that.

These discs look cheap. The blank mirror finish on top is uneven and the edges are irregular with bubbles and flakes showing. They come shrink-wrapped with no spindle. Hardly confidence-inspiring, but they work just fine.

Here’s the readout from one of the blanks using two separate apps:

I paid about 2 CHF in Switzerland, and they really sucks, only coasters with 411S, speed limit 1x: they have the bad code VDSPMS!!!
I think LiteOn will add this DVD-R in next firmware.

    Drive Type = DVD DUAL
Disc Type = DVD-R (Single Layer)
      Disc MID = 56 44 53 50 4D 53 (VDSPMS)
      Disc TID = 00 04 41 42 20 30 (..AB 0)

Nominal Capacity = 4.38GB
Manufacturer Maybe = Unknown
SMART-BURN Speed Limit = 1.0X (Write)

Not the same media code, not the same discs, not the same results.

Like I said, these are AN32 and burn fine at 4X. They are already in firmware FSOF.

I picked up some cheapy discs that have an AN code, but not AN31/32 that you see around, the code on these is AN30, the liteon can only burn these at 1x at the moment and i have problems with this media and my xbox, all other media i’ve used is excellent except for these discs. Anyone know if liteon will be adding support for these new AN discs?

Resolved with FS0G!!!
Now they work:bigsmile:

hello,

I have the same media. before upgrading to FS0G, it could only burn at 1x and i could’nt read the dvd-r’s anywhere (coasters). I’ve just upgraded to FS0G and now they burn at 4x with recordnow dx!

BUT:
when the recording finishes (just after all data is written) I get the following error message:

Job 1, Host:0 ID:0 ( F: ) - Lite-on DVDRW LDW-811S - Recording - Error -10 at Sector 2077004 - Disc Read Error - Command:00 Sense:03 ASC:73 ASCQ:03

Job 1 Round 1 Terminated - 0 Good Disc(s), 1 Bad Disc(s)

  :frowning:

It was an Xbox game, which for the moment works great on my console, but i don’t like the message… anyone had the same problem or do know what is wrong?

thanks!
