Hmm … was the network an open network? Or did he force his way in?
If it was open, the owner is partially responsible for dangling a carrot in front of a donkey … almost encouraging them to break the law. This doesn’t absolve the kid from personal responsibility, but children are impressionable.
If it was secured, the kids was smart enough to know he was breaking the law.

I know my desktop machine will automatically connect to the best unsecured network it can find (even if its not the one in our house) and use that one to provide the internet connection. Sometimes I dont even notice that its connected to the guy across the street.

It shouldn’t suprise you that there are a lot of unsecured networks around and it wouldn’t take much. Yes people should learn how to properly secure the network or it will be exploited at sometime.

yeah of course
