Silly question about internal, external cdr

My cdr drive went out. I can’t afford a new internal one, so is it possible to plug an external cdr into an unused usb port? I have heard that external ones are a bunch cheaper than the internal drives. SOMEBODY HELP!!!

There is a way to make a modification to have a internal go external.

Maybe this will help.

Where did you heard that? And what does cloak’s $50 hard drive external enclosure have anything to do w/ your dead int. CD burner?

If you want a replacement CD burner, Newegg.com has the Lite-On 52246S Retail for $48.

this thread’s been confusing me too. in most places (if not all), external drives are more expensive than internal drives.

and also:

so is it possible to plug an external cdr into an unused usb port?

isn’t that just about the only way to plug in an external drive (unless it’s firewire)?
