I own a Compaq Presario SR1070AN, with a HP 400i/c burner, now, I've been reading up that its really a phillips/benq with its features dampened (i.e no -, just +) now, i've read this thread, http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=92188 and have tired doyles suggestion:
Thanks all for the information above.
I have the same problem as Hamoohead. DVD Read / write works fine, can't read CD ROM or CD R/RW.
Seems to occured when I changed to firmware FH04...
Based on suggestions found here an in thread http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread...&highlight=400c
1. Rolled back to BH04 found at:
2. Re-loaded FH04 found at the same link
3. Loaded the philips DVDrw824DP 3.3 firmware found at http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread...&highlight=400i in Pstele's Post.
4. Rolled back to FH04 with out issue.
End result - I proved that you could easily change the Firmware. None of the changes helped my player with it's CD ROm CD R/RW issue.
Next Step - Go to HP for warranty replacement.
Im just about to try this:
Hehe - i haven't actually tried using 8X DVD-R's, but i have read on many other forums people having success burning at 8X with BenQ 800a's running with 822a firmware. The BenQ 800a is an exact clone of the Philips drive (so all internal hardware is the same).
If an 800a can, i'm sure yours can also burn at 8X with -r's, although i'm not actually sure what the physical differences between your drive and mine are (although yours can only be better).
I'm using B3IC (the latest from BenQ) and i find that its very reliable (although the Philips firmware was very reliable too) and will upgrade to the dual layer firmware when it comes out next month.
To flash using BenQ firmware, download WinDWFlash.exe and the B3IC (for BenQ 822A) firmware from this page:
Should be a pretty safe procedure - many others have done it, and if your drive doesn't like it, i've got a copy of the original Philips firmware (for both /00 and /40 versions).
That one doesnt seem to work, as it doesnt have a flash image for my 400i, good lord help me
I cannot install the firmware upon that page on HP, as my burner doesnt have the software programs needed (i get an error saying it needs the software when i start the update) but because it was with the PC when i bought it, i dont have any of those CD's, there once was a firmware update for this, i have installed it, but im stil having problems burning DVD's where it just fucks up with an error, and now it wont recognize "boiling point: road to hell"
so, what do i do, to update my burner, and to unlock is 'hidden' features?
