Should my hard drive dma be on?

this is the top of my nero log , and i noticed on the last few lines that the dma of the harddrive is listed as off (but the dvddrives are on) … is that normal or should it be on? If so where do I go to turn it on? thank you.

DMA should definitely be on for both harddrives and optical drives.

I suggest you read this article:

DMA reverts to PIO

and also this thread:

Troubleshooting: Enabling/Checking DMA in Windows Vista, XP, 2000, Me, 9x

thanks for the quick reply … Ive read what you sent me … but nothing refers to a s-ata drive just ata’s … ive googled to death and cant find out how to find the dma setting for a sata hard drive…

Nero can’t detect DMA status in these situations.

If you’re concerned that it isn’t OK try a test with HD Tach, that’ll soon show if there’s an issue.
