Should I make a test disc with nero for scanning or is it better to use a disc I burned (using nero) with regular data?

What is the prupose of the test disc?

I have a Samsung SE-S084C external DVD writer and Windata (I know they are supposed to suck from what I read but I got them for free).

What read speed for the test 8X?

Thanks I am trying to read up on all this stuff.

If you burn the test disk Nero Speed will also graph the burn speed. If I recall, you can specify an ISO file to burn as the test disk, so if you want you can burn a useful test disk.

I would say your slimtype burner is useles for reliable dvd media scanning.

Yes it is not good for scanning. Nero will not even show the option for quality scan on that burner. All I can do is scan disc:(

If you look at Michael’s Mini-FAQ for Samsung DVD Writers, somewhere in there should be instructions on how to enable Samsung scanning in CD-DVD Speed.

I’ve no idea how good a scanner this Sammy might be though, as I never use mine to scan with.
