Should I get a 203B or a Liteon?

Hello,

My LiteON is near dead and I was thinking of getting a new burner. I see that this S203B from Samsung has a very good review and is currently in the Top5 burners at CDFreaks.

Is this burner still the top one apart from Pioneer and Optiarc?

It would be helpful if you could help me take a decision. Should I get this drive or a new Liteon?

It’s terrific. I’d recommend it to anyone.

Thanks for the quick response.

I’m leaning towards this Sammy as of now. Even Bob recommended me to it over the LO in another separate thread.

How does this Sammy burn Moser Baer India +R and -R discs? I tend to use them the maximum and couldn’t find anything on the forums as well (even under the Scans thread for this drive).

I wouldn’t use an MBI disc as a surrogate frisbee and you certainly shouldn’t use them to save your data. It’s just lunacy to use cheap junk media.

Get some Verbatims or Taiyo Yudens.

Also, has it any compatibility probs with the following setup:

Motherboard Name: Asus M2N8-VMX
Motherboard Chipset: nVIDIA nForce 6100-405, AMD Hammer
IDE Controller: NVIDIA MCP61 Serial ATA Controller

I hear many SATA ODDs have probs with specific SATA controllers. I don’t want to get a PCI SATA Card for a burner :stuck_out_tongue:

The reason I use MBI discs is coz good discs such as Verbatims and TYs are not available where I live.

I can get Sony Discs.

I generally burn a DVD twice (just in case  ) nearly always.

I have basically the same setup in my secondary system as you have only difference is I’m
using a Biostar mobo with the same chipset and have no problem with using a Liteon 20A1S
or a Samsung SH-S203B SATA drive in it. :disagree:

So you’ll have 2 crappy discs?

Get the SONYs.

Thanks!

BTW, which one do you like better Samsung or the LO?

Hmm…

I think I should get the sony’s

BTW, in my faulty/near dead LO, only the Sony +R is readable. All MBI +R are identified as blanks :stuck_out_tongue:

Is this coincidence or has to do with quality?

Has to do with either or both.

I see there is another model called 203D as well. Much difference in them?

Search didn’t reveal much info. :frowning:

Posts split from SH-S203B review thread.

:cop: There is no need to post the same question in several forums. :cop:
