SH-S203N firmware LA00?

I have an SH-S203N that was originally in a Lacie external enclosure. The enclosure died so I removed the drive and put it in my PC. It has firmware “LA00”, which is probably a Lacie-specific firmware (my guess).

The official Samsung firmware flashers for SB01 and SB02 say they are incompatible with this drive. Is there a way to flash it?

You must use the nocheck flashing option the method is in the 223f thread somewhere it is explained by member albert, u can flash the n firmware if you want LS u can also use the b firmware but you will lose LS

Thanks! Found what I needed in the mini-FAQ.

I did the -NOCHECK with SB01 and then used the one-click for SB02.

I’m assuming LS is working (InfoTool indicates that the drive has LS), but I don’t have any LS media to use with it anyway, so I’m not too concerned about that.

 LS is still working as long as you flashed the N firmware. Try C0deKing’s patch tool also.

What is the N firmware and where can I get it?

Thanks.

OK … I’m confused. I just bought a refurb SH-S203N internal drive and it has that Lacie LA00 code in it and will not burn a DVD without errors. I spent 5 hours today looking to see how to update this (so called Mac Code) into the latest Samsung code. Samsung and the SFDNDOS programs will not allow the flash to occur, even using the .bin code.

So what the trick here … ?

Thanks … Zorro

Hi and Welcome!
I just bought a refurb SH-S203N internal drive and it has that Lacie LA00 code in it and will not burn a DVD without errors.
Even with OEM firmware, the drive should be able to burn properly with quality media.
So either your blank discs aren’t the best, or there are Sata controller related issues (especially with Via and some Jmicron controllers), or the drive is faulty. If there is any warranty on the drive, I would not try to crossflash to another firmware.

Perhaps a look into the FAQ mentioned in my signature does help answering that question
But as already mentioned, you’re voiding any warranty.

WOW … that was fast … This Samsung is my 3rd burner. I thought maybe my other 2 Lite on dirves gave up on DVD’s. So now all three don’t burn DVD. I just went to Best Buy and Bought some Sony DVD-r 16X cause my errors were all using Verbatim 16X (which I thought were top of the line.

I’m going to test all 3 burners now with the Sony DVD-r’s … I’ll let ya know and THANK YOU for the fast response

Hi,
Ran SiSoft Sandra all 3 drives … Odd how it reports the S203N as a SCSI drive
This is normal since the drive seems to be connected to a controller you have manufacturer drivers installed for.

Since none of your drives can burn DVD, I suspect there is some issue with your Windows installation.
Could you please download ImgBurn and try to burn a disc? Make sure, you have set it to SPTI in “settings…” --> I/O tab. These ancient ASPI drivers don’t support modern interfaces properly.

Hi Michael …

It’s been a good and bad day today.

The good:

I used Nero 9.0 to burn files to a DVD successfully on the Samsung Drive … … but failed on the lite-on 1692S drive

I Used IMGBurn to successfully burn a DVD on the Lite-On 812S drive

Bad News:

I re flashed the 812S light-on drives to the original code.
812S works now

But I killed the 1693S by burning the 812S code to it’s flash!!! I didn’t realize it defaulted to the 812S until I already started the process!~:a

Now if the power is plugged into that drive … I can’t even boot the system out of BIOS! Oh wizard … got a fix for that or do I now own a new paperweight?

Please check the Liteon forum section, especially the “Read First” articles. If I remember correctly, there is a chance to revive the drive with a tool called XSF, which is a DOS based flash tool. If you don’t find the answers you need, then just open a new thread over there.
