I recently purchased a Samsung SH-S203B and attempted a firmware update to version SB04 right after I installed it in my computer. This bricked the drive. I contacted Samsung and they RMA'ed me a new drive. I let their live update software try to update the firmware on this one and it has not bricked it yet but it is close. My F/W version now reads boot.
Every time I try live update or manually run tsdnwin with any version of firmware I get the same message:
"The firmware update is failed. Please retry it after rebooting the system."
Just before I tried to update the firmware on the second drive, I had just rebuilt my PC with Windows XP Home SP3 and I disabled all non-essential processes including Comodo firewall, and nod32 AV. So I doubt that there was a software conflict.
The computer that this burner is installed in is as follows:
XP home SP3
2 gigs ram
AMD 64 X2 4200+
Biostar K8M800 Micro AM2 main board
Total Storage: 1.5TB with 200 Gig free
SH-S203B Drive is connected to SATA connector 2
500 GB drive is connected to SATA connector 1
Sata is configured in IDE mode not RAID
OS drive is connected to PATA 1 master
ASUS DVDROM is connected to PATA 2 master
TSST Win Inquiry reads as follows:
Drive: TSSTcorpCDDVDW SH-S203B BOOT
Model Name: TSSTcorpCDDVDW SH-S203B
OEM Code: SB
If anyone has a suggestion please let me know. Samsung tech support asked for a screen shot of the error message and sent that to their engineers a week ago and I have not received an update or suggestion.
