SH-S202N Slow CD Ripping

I recently replaced a dead Plextor PX712A with a SH-S202N. It seems to be working generally fine. However, CD ripping is very slow - max speed is about 8x using EAC in secure mode. (Perhaps I was spoiled by the old Plextor, which often achieved 30x or greater?).

I did check that the drive is running in DMA mode, so that’s not the issue.

I seem to recall seeing various postings about third party firmwares that can increase the speed of Samsung drives. But I’m a little hesitant about possibly bricking the drive, so I’d like to ask if these third party firmwares are dependable, and if so which one should I use to increase CD ripping speed?

Scrub my question - it’s not the Samsung drive. Someone suggested I try dbPowerAmp, and with that I am seeing peak ripping speeds of up to 30x in secure mode. So it must be some kind of EAC configuration issue.
