Serial numbers

Hi just been tinkering on the Liteon website and have found an interesting change

the first group of numbers give different download letters.

0101 = LNEBE
0102 = LNFBE
0103 = LNGBE
0104 = LNHBE
0105 = incorrect serial number same to 0109

all set to UK but tried all countrys and all failed

I was just thinking about these serial numbers right before I saw this post.
I have been trying to download the FW for my 5005 but since I already did,
the site won’t let me.
I want to get another download so I can hack it.

I tried changing my S/N and got one.

I got LNEA1176 and at one time I got
LNFA1176

But my question is, does it matter which download I use?
I have a US version.

hi
can someone explain what the serial numbers mean? i read a post and it said the first four are the motherboard type and i also saw one saying the first four have to do with your model number.
thanks

For my US 5005 serial number - 0102-1840-0098-g2bd (015-010d)

0102 - motherboard as per LiteOn
1840 - drive as per LiteOn site
0098 - system firmware
g2bd - drive firmware
015 - first number = region 0-9, 0 is region free -
second number 0 or 1, 0 is macrovision enabled, 1 is macrovision disabled
third number is last digit of system firmware update done in this case it was ES5
010d - no idea and has stayed the same since 0102-1840-0090-g2b9 (103-010d)

thanks for the quick reply
i thought i had a 5006 instead of a 5005.

@bluesuga - there should be a label on the rear of your 5XXX with the model number on it. Check it to make sure what model number you have, I don’t know if the 5006’s have the same internal serial number or not.

The 5XXX’s have 2 serial numbers:
One on the sticker on the outside of the unit.
The serial number discussed here is the one obtained from the setup screen and is used to obtain firmware updates from the LiteOn site for LiteOn’s that require the input of the serial number from the setup screen.

only needed when you request a RMA of your unit
