Self-Test Failed

My 48/24/48U has been having difficulties recognizing discs, blank or burned. I checked the FAQ, found the self-test at http://www.plextor.com/english/support/faqs/HW00003.htm and tried it.

Result: I can’t get past this step:

  1. Insert a blank Plextor-certified CD-R disc. Be sure to use only CD-R media of the type recommended by Plextor.
  • If the DISC indicator blinks amber three times, the loaded disc is not a blank CD-R disc. Remove the disc and insert a blank, Plextor-certified CD-R disc

I tried several blanks, and I keep getting the amber blinking. The blanks are fine in my other burner, and used to work in the Plextor.

What should I do next?

I’m on Windows XP SP2, with ASPI 4.71.2, but that shouldn’t affect the self-test, right?

The cdr blanks that you’re using are they the PLEXTOR RECOMMENDED BRAND? Check Plextor’s website to see if the brand you’re using is on the RECOMMENDED LIST. For the self test you need to use a brand that is on Plextor’s RECOMMENDED LIST. use the link below to find out.
