Second LG Burner, same DMA error

I had an LG-H12 and it failed, DMA Driver error (CRC error),
this happened after I connected the DVD, then turned off the computer,
disconnected the dvd, and instead used that IDE for a hard drive,
My M/B is Gigabyte 965P-DS3 so I only have 1 IDE slot, so when I need
to put data on my other 3rd drive, I disconnect the DVD, then these errors start happening once I reconnect and try to burn!

I replaced the H12 with an H42 (warranty)…I do have Daemon tools, right now I’ve removed the virtual drives…
now I don’t have warranty anymore, so if this doesn’t work I don’t have a dvd burner

(1 real DVD, 2 virtual disks:)

help please

Replace the ide cable!

Also, try withbetter media.

Recorder: HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-H42N, Media type: DVD-R
Disc Manufacturer: INFOME - DIAR20

ill try replacing the cable in a few minutes,

I just want to know, right now its set to Master and it’s the only thing on the cable, that’s ok right?

also, if its messed up, maybe I can reflash the firmware to get it working again?

btw this media has been great for me, i haven’t had problems with silverline at all

Yeah, is right, master (at the other cable end) if its the only drive.

Try replacing the cable first, you can flash later if necessary.

changed the cable, still a no go, same DMA driver error…

also I forgot to mention I also have Alcohol 120% as well as Daemon tools.

(cant find the edit button suddenly 0_o)

anyway I also want to mention that every time i start up the computer I see my drives and optical drives listed, and at the top it says

"PCI-E to SATAII Controller bios vs XXXXXX"
maybe its something related to that?

The burner is IDe, right?

Try disabling “hide cd/dvd media” in alcohol and DaemonTools or update DT.

(Im simulating the burns because i would be wasting all my DVDs…)

I uninstalled Alcohol 120%, took all the options off Daemon Tools (latest Lite).
now the burner goes up to ~40-50 percent, then goes back to 0, and then gives the DMA driver error

I have something called “Winstaff ASPI driver” installed on my computer, probably a part of some program,
but could it be causing the interference with the DVD?

Try installing ForceASPI, then use Imgburn to burn.

should I uninstall Winstaff first? or install ForceASPI on top of it?

btw thanks for the help

edit:
It seems I might have solved the problem!!!
I downloaded this file:
ftp://ftp6.nero.com/wnaspi32.dll

and placed it in the system32 folder…
I simulated a 1.2GB burn and it worked!

im gonna try actually burning later today and post back here.

here is the successful log if you’re interested

it seems that it did not solve the problem…
I downloaded forceASPI and installed it, also verified that it works,
restarted the system and simulated with ImgBurn,
at 73 percent I got this:

I/O Error!

If you have Intel Application Accelerator installed, remove it. If there’s any other type of 3rd party IDE controller driver showing in Device Manager, revert it to the default MS IDE Controller driver.

Mh, maybe its time to test the drive in another puter.

also make sure you have set the correct aspi layer in the imgburn settings.

You’re right! I didn’t know I had to select ASPI in the I/O configuration panel…

so I selected ASPI and did a simulation of burning some files (a couple thousand files) and it failed with the CRC Error, except it says on the bottom something like:

Reason: Unsupported Image Format

(I checked the image format and it was ISO9660 + UDF (1.02))
So maybe my DVD doesn’t support that???

then I tried something different, I did a simulated burning of an ISO file, that way I don’t have to choose an image format, and it worked!
so my burner can only burn ISO files 0_o?

ill try doing it again with different files and see if it works, I wouldn’t mind putting it in an ISO before burning, so long as it works.

if that fails again, ill try it in another computer,
if not, then the problem is fixed (kind of … lol)

thanks again

Hi,
I had an LG-H12 and it failed, DMA Driver error (CRC error),
this happened after I connected the DVD, then turned off the computer,
disconnected the dvd, and instead used that IDE for a hard drive,
My M/B is Gigabyte 965P-DS3 so I only have 1 IDE slot, <hl-dt-st dvdram="" gsa-h42n=""><ide><hl-dt-st dvdram="" gsa-h42n=""><ide><not specified="">
The IDE port on this mainboard is provided by a Jmicron based controller chip, which is not known to support optical drives well. Additionally, LG drives are picky about the controller it is connected to. Running a DVD burner successfully on that controller is merely a matter of personal luck.
That having said, I would recommend a SATA burner connected to the ICH8 controller (which should be running in IDE mode preferably).

Another word about Aspi: Aspi is for Win9x, and not needed on W2k/XP/Vista at all. It is also a source of trouble.

Last few times I seen that error was due to lack of drivers or incorrect drivers installed. Make sure you have the latest chipset drivers installed for your M/B. I would check Gigabyte support first, then see what Intel has.
Oh yeah, You might want to install the SATA-Raid driver too, I seen this fix the error a couple times also.
Also like CDan said make sure you don’t have Intel Application Accelerator installed as it is not compatible with your chipset.

i dont have that intel acceleerator thing,
ill try installing the sata-raid driver, and the latest chipset drivers,
if that doesnt work ill turn to the gigabyte support.

thanks for helping guys, ill post back later if i succeeded with anything

Sorry for the really huge delay,
it’s just test-time and there are a lot of SATs and
whatnot.

Anyway, You guys were right!

I bought a IDE-to-USB + power supply
and connected the drive to another computer and it burned successfully
with no errors!

Problem is, if I ever want to sell this computer, I’d be selling a "non-working’ dvd burner since it doesn’t work with the motherboard…

thanks again guys!

also if you have any ideas of how to get it working on this computer,
please do tell!

the only way to get that LG drive to work correctly on your computer is to buy pci controller card with the ITE IT8212F chipset is the best to use. as mentioned the problem lies in the jmicron chipset of your mobo. otherwise buy a sata dvd burner and run it off your ich8 controller as already mentioned.
