Seagate firmware fix bricks Barracudas

The updated firmware Seagate issued to solve 1TB Barracuda drive faults is causing 500GB Barracuda drives to fail.

IIRC there is already a fixed version available. That should be even be able to recover a bricked 500 GB drive.

Do you think that this is a result of Seagate buying Maxtor and using the China plants to make their harddrives or are the Barracuda drives made there? I wonder who was the big dummy at Seagate who thought that letting Maxtor make their drives would be a good idea? That was a major blunder on their part because Seagate had the best reputation for making quality drives for years until recently.
