I'd be afraid of having so many eggs in one portable-notebook basket, though, and I'd think "taking them off to an external on a nightly basis" would be one option. This would give me an SSD-based notebook that consumed less battery power thus giving me greater access opportunities.
At the same time, if my notebook was the only computer I had, I could see a need for a lot of storage but - how much can I possibly get? I think "2tb" is the max and that's really a TON of pix. I'd certainoly hate to lose that many when a drop or power-loss.
I'd consider even a 2-ext drive option as my best traveling bet. Backing up to one Ext HDD for a day, then backing up to Unit #2 the next, rotating them.
But there are a lot of notebooks now that offer two HDD/SDD slots inside - often with the setup discussed - SSD bootup, HDD storage.
