Reading and writing speed is not an issue for SafeDisc.
The Plextors were famous for producing copies that only worked in the burner themselves. Some Toshiba readers produced copies that did not work everywhere, so this issue has been around a while.
The test of a good SD2 killer writer was a copy that worked anywhere and everywhere. ASUS drives are guaranteed to do this (except the 24x and 1210)
Now that Emulation is a popular tool, the original app or one of its features may need to be installed on the play machine.

This won't work when playing from a burner. When playing a backup from a burner, a Hide ATIP feature from Alcohol, CloneCD or Daemon Tools is needed and will work. In extreme cases, the Bad Sector Emulation in Alcohol is required. SafeDisc emu in D-Tools includes the "Bad Sector Emulation".
