SCSI/ATAPI Timeout error in Nero

Hey. Just tried to burn a 620MB CD in DAO in Nero 5.5.10.0. I got the above error (SCSI/ATAPI timeout error) after a really long lead-in (2 min 30 s.) Any ideas as to what I should do? I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Nero… no go. Will TAO help?

bump. could this be a hardware problem?

Bump.

here is the log file.
The strange thing is that this only happens with CDRs… I’ve tried Sony, Verbatim and Prodisc. My 12X Princo CDRW burns fine.

are your aspi drivers proper?

they should be as you can burn to RWs.

hey,

Can the IDE drivers be the culprit? Try re-installing them.

if you run xp, then they get corrupted every now & then for no reason. they create errors & probs which you just can’t imagine.

hey dude. ASPI seems to be alright. Just that intermittently the CDRs fail to work. I think it seems to be some sorta conflict between EZCDcreator and Nero. Let’s see, I got some suggestions I should try. Will update this thread later.

ok, post your results.

Can’t use the NVIDIA™ IDE Controller
Many reports that this driver makes CD-RW unable to burn CDs as it happened to me also.

Use the Nvidia MCP2 IDE Controllers, they act the same as the Native Microsoft IDE Controllers but u can burn CDs again with this driver.

hey,

I have the same problem and posted a question about it in the Lite-on forum. Bhairav, if you have sorted things out please let me know.

Most likely they are conflicting.
Also check the IDE cables, the IDE controllers’ drivers (update) and DMA (if enabled) there as well as the media you use.

hey toytoy. I did just that, still no go. thanks neway!
@Boskin and angeladevi - I started getting power calibration errors with the drive, so I think it is a hardware failure. I tried Sony,Verbatim and Princo media, as I had heard that you can get this error with bad media too, but still no go. I have RMA’d the drive, should be getting the replacement in a week’s time.
I’ll update you guys when I get it.
Thanks for the help! (esp Boskin and toytoy!)

Hey,

thanx for replying my questions in the Lite-on forum. Now I have tried some things:

I reinstalled the VIA 4in1 package which was included with my MOBO (Abit KR7A Raid) and did an upgrade to version 4.35. Now I understand from different sources that the VIA Busmaster Driver can give problems and basically you can do without it. I then rechecked the settings of all my drives which I had to set back to DMA. Further I reinstalled aspi version 4.60. I used to have 4.72 but checking it it had some 4.60 parts as well so I had them all at 4.60. Yes I had Easycdcreator and Direct cd as well but uninstalled them. I think something still remains on my machine. Anyone knows how to get rid of it completely?

Now I uninstalled Nero and reinstalled the old version - 5.5.7.8 bundled - which was enclosed with the drive (Lite-on 32125W) and upgraded it to the version I had before all my trouble started -5.5.10.7-. Then I did some simulation tests (only simulation!) with different types of CDR’s. Now it seems that I have a pack of CDR’s which apparently screw things up:

‘Freecom 4x…40x’ which are:
Ritek
Dye (Short Strategy; Phthalocyanine)
CD Recordable 702,82 MB

Using other brands solves my problem in a way that I am able to write again and thanks, my recorder is still in good shape. Strange that the Ritek CDR’s behave this way. They get pretty good posts in the media section.

I will check further for other things which can be wrong in my system. The ‘SCSI pending’ message means something is wrong in the tranfer between different parts of the system, IDE drivers, IDE cables etc.
