Sata problems with xp or nero?

I recently just built this new pc.
Asus pn5-d mobo
Sony dru-v200s sata dvdrw
4gb ram
windows xp sp3
My old pc I had an ide burner on the same os and was using the same programs that I use now, Clonedvd,AnyDvd and Nero v7.0.1.2 and rarely ever made a coaster. It doesn’t really matter what program I use now I just seem to make alot of coasters. It reads and plays dvds and cds fine, and when using clonedvd and anydvd it copies fine and actually burns the dvd and says completed but, when I go to look at the disc there isn’t anything on it and it’s no longer usable. When I use nero to try to burn the files I get this:

Windows XP 5.1

I’ve downloaded all the recent drivers and flashed the bios and there isn’t any firmware updates. Anyone have any idea whats causing this, i’m wasting alot of dvds. Hopefully someone can help!

Hi and Welcome!

I see the following possible problems:
Nero API version: 7.0.1.2
This an ancient version. Please update to the latest version available for Nero 7 (no need to switch to Nero 8 or 9). Updates are available at www.nero.com

Next possible problem:

DiskPeripheral : WDC WD1600AAJS-08WAA 58.0 nvgts Port 2 ID 0 DMA: Off
CdRomPeripheral : SONY DVD RW DRU-V200S1.60 nvgts Port 2 ID 1 DMA: Off
Assuming your Sata controller is configured as “IDE” in Bios setup, uninstall Nvidia IDE/Sata drivers, reboot and let Windows install its own drivers.
To uninstall the drivers, use the Nvidia Installer in Control Panel -> Add/Remove Software.

As additional option you may try the latest chipset drivers from www.nvidia.com

Michael

Thank you for the welcome and the possibilities. I do have the lastest asus and nvidia drivers. When I built this pc like 2 weeks ago I have a few problems with the nvdia drivers giving me bsod. Apparently its a chipset conflict with those drivers. I downloaded the new ones from the site and it seemed to fix the problem. The clonedvd uses its own burning software and still get the same results and nero, i’m not really sure that the older version of nero is the problem. Could there be a bios or some other setting that needs to be changed?

No need to get rid of Nvidia drivers, just turn DMA on.

Hi,QUOTE=BrutalButchery;2227847. Apparently its a chipset conflict with those drivers. I downloaded the new ones from the site and it seemed to fix the problem.
Then all is fine now?

At least there should be some bugs fixed. Latest version is 7.11.10.0 I don’t expect further updates.

Could there be a bios or some other setting that needs to be changed?
You may try if changing the operation mode of your Sata controller in Bios to “IDE” (or similar) and using MS default drivers works for you. But since the new chipset drivers seem to have solved the problem, I don’t see any need for further action.

Michael

I meant the new drivers solved the bsod I was getting with the older nvidia drivers that came with the mobo. I’ve had those for a few weeks. Still working on the burner issue though. I’ll try to change that in the bios and see if that helps any.

The only settings related in my bios that I could find was Extended IDE Drive auto/none and Access mode auto/large. Dma for the sata controllors are enable in the bios. Any Ideas?
No need to get rid of Nvidia drivers, just turn DMA on.
Nero always report DMA=OFF if the controller is run with manufacturer drivers.

Set both options to “auto”, additionally, you may uninstall the Nvidia Sata/IDE drivers.

Edit: You may set Extended to “none” for the Sata port you have connected your drive to.

Go into device manager is windows and look for IDE / ATAPI sata controllers and you can set the dma on from there.

Either try burning at 8x or get better media liek Verbatim/TY.
