65 x 74 (mm)

Made in Taiiwan, Silicon Image Sil3112

There are two external SATA II ports.

Sorry if it’s a dumb question, but do you know if these ports are usable with optical devices?

Some Silicon Image PATA/SATA controllers work with ODD drives.

However, such cards are designed to be used with external SATA II HDD drives. There are now devices enabling to connect multiple SATA II HDD’s to each port.

What is new is that it’s PCI Express 1x. The slot length is very short and the card occupies very small space. Though it’s much cheaper and easier to have the ports built into the motherboards as in many 965 boards.

Thanks for the info

OK, but how SATA power connectors from PSU will reach the HDD outside the case?

Either from an independent power supply unit built into external chassis to house HDD’s or ODD’s, or from the external power connector. (See there are three connectors on the outside of the card shown above, two SATA II ports and one power connector.)
