So Sanyo, aren’t silly they realised a long time ago, it is cheaper to bulk manufacture the parts, and let others incorporate them within their designs, then to exclusively manufacture same!(at one time they went toe to toe with Sony in consumer electronics, until sony went big time with the walkman portable cassette player). This means the time to return costs on R&D is very much reduced. So even the mainland chinese can assemble very cheap electronic consumer goods from cheaper Sanyo Parts. If Sony wins, they will outsource all manufacture, and assembly to countries which supply the cheapest third world labour sources, like mainland china(GD US$5000) or malaysia(GDP US$9000) or India(GDP $2900)(by the way a quick google shows Taiwan’s GDP of US$24900, America’s GDP is $37800 and Australia’s is US$29000, all figures est. 2004) In order to maximise all profits, I would outsource to mainland china, with it’s cheap pool of labour, allied to government officials willingness to supply existing state owned manufacturing facilities, to be gutted and refurbished at your expense.
