Samsung SM-352B can't read data dvds

For quite some time now my drive hasn’t been able to read data dvd’s that were written by different friends with different dvd burners. It worked before and my drive recognizes every other kind of disc. My firmware version: BT809 which is the newest version I believe.
Doesn anyone have an idea what might cause the problem? I run demon tools, nero 7 and sd4hide.
Help would be greatly appreciated.

How do I find out whether the DVD is written in one of the modes my drive can’t read?

Ok forget that last question is written on the DVD. It’s a DVD+R which it should be able to read.
