Samsung SH-S203N SATA DVD Burner stops responding during burns?

Hi, great forum you guys have here! I appreciate any suggestions!!!

So I just added a Samsung SH-S203N (SATA) drive to my box… It reads & rips fine, but every time I tried to burn a ISO file to a DVD, with DVD Decrypter (3.5.4, older free version), the drive just stops responding. The speed and write rate drop to zero, and the process status bar just stays where it’s currently at. The program does not lock up and allows you to access it, but the burner just keeps spinning and spinning and spinning… Even after closing DVD Decrypter.

After several tries I decided to send it back thinking it was defective. I got a new one and guess what? Well, I then checked the firmware and it already has the lastest version (SB01). Then a relative told me that DVD Decrypter might be “too old” for this new burner and to try NERO, which came only with the 2nd burner (go figure)… Nero burned about 5 DVDs with no problems, some even less than 5 min!

So I thought for sure my problem was solved, until I tried to play one. It played but was pretty glitchy… So, hoping that the maybe the ISO file was corrupt or something, I tried to burn a different ISO file to DVD with Nero and it F’n froze at 81%, just as it did with DVD Decrypter initially! Again, Nero didn’t freeze, but the burner just stopped responding and the process bar stuck at 81% for 10 min, until I finally aborted!

PLEASE send any suggestions or thoughts b/c I am SO FRUSTRATED - I’ve never had a problem with burners! Always used NEC and have burned at least 250 DVDs, litterally… Not sure if this matters but, my system still has a NEC burner in it, but it’s IDE connection… I just added this new SATA burner and it recognized it fine and set it to drive “H”, after the NEC burner which is drive “F” (“G” is for a card reader in my printer).

Thanks so much in advance!!!

P.S. Not sure if it helps but here’s the Nero burn log when it failed, even though it never actually gave me an error message before I aborted… 1 thing I noticed is that it has “IDE” listed as the adapter type for the Samsung SATA drive???
