I have a problem with this drive, when i burn a Philips +RW with this drive , my home player (also samsung) can`t read the disc !!!
On the computer the disc plays fine.

When i burn the same philips dvd+RW with my Pioneer 111L, the disc plays perfect in my home player !!!

My Optiarc 7170A Burns the dvd +RW also perfect for my home player!

So something is strange with te samsung drive (firmware?),he can`t burn a philips +RW right so it plays in my home player.

I have used firmware sb00 and sb01, problem stays the same

This is only with RW discs , normal -r or +r the drive burns perfect for me

My question , am i the only one with this problem , or is there a fix for this problem.

THIS IS THE INFO FROM THE DISC Pioneer 111L burner.
NO problems with this disc and plays fine.

As you can see samsung is on dvd-rom
pioneer on +RW

I tried changing booktype but does not help with the disc samsung drive burns!

BTW my home dvd player (also samsung) has played everything -r +r +rw and dvd-rom no problems at all.

This is my first disc that wont play, and i dont know what the problem is .

Hi,

Infodisc isn’t known as good quality media.
The other drives you tried might be able to handle these better than the Samsung.
You might try a different brand (preferred Verbatim) in order to see if there is something wrong with your burner, or if it was a media related problem.

I know other media is an option (and i will try that also) , but i really want to know why these media does not work with the samsung.
And infodisc i talk about is Philips DVD +RW, these are not so bad i think.
(have 10 of them on a spindle)

BTW. at closer inspection i see a difference between the info tabel with samsung and pioneer with these media , look at this !

Physical Format Information (00h)
0000 - 01 0F 04 00 00 03 00 00 00 26 05 3F 00 00 00 00 - …&.?..

This is from the samsung ,look at the first number 01

and now Pioneer with the same burn

Physical Format Information (00h)
0000 - 92 0F 04 00 00 03 00 00 00 26 05 3F 00 00 00 00 - …&.?..

Pioneer has at the beginning 92 !!!

this is the only change i see, maby this is the fault.??

Is it possible with a fixed firmware to change it ,so that the samsung burns with this media ?

Hi.
(have 10 of them on a spindle)
poor media remains poor media even if Philips slaps their logo on them. Sorry to say that.
The difference you observed might be due to the fact that the Samsung is setting the booktype to dvd-rom, the Pioneer does not.
