Samsung SH-183L Writing Speed

Hey All im new and this looks like the right place for help.

I have just built myself a new machine and I have purchased for it a Samsung SH-183L SATA Drive, however it does not work properly. It reads all types of media fine, it burns CD-R’s fine but when i try to burn an 8x speed dvd it will only burn @ 4x. I have this problem when using Nero OEM that came with it + Roxio Easy 7.

Does anybody have a solution?

Many Thanks

Welcome to CDF’s:

How is SATA set in your bios? Also what brand and speed of discs are you using?

Hey

In my Bios (Asus Commando) is reads the drive as an IDE Slave, however all the settings are set to Auto. :frowning:

Hi,

could you please also provide the MID of the discs you are using? Just run Nero CD/DVD speed and check the “Disc Info” tab (after having inserted the disc, of course).

Possibly there isn’t any issue at all since some discs are supported at lower speeds than printed on the media in order to preserve quality.

Michael

The Media I use is Sum Vision DVD-R 8x Gold Top Disc’s, I have check the speed and they are def 8x Disc’s. This was confirmed with both Roxio & Nero. :frowning:

I have a similar problem with my SH-S182D.
The only difference is that i’m using YUDEN T03 (16x media), but can’t get it to burn at 16x. It automatically limits the speed to 4x :a

I tried Nero and Imgburn, but the results were the same.

All my hard disks are working fine and the DMA is enabled in all my devices.

Hi,

What happens if you are using quality DVD+R media (Yuden T03, Verbatim MCC004)?

Edit: @Judas - ooops, I didn’t see you were already using T03 - I had (mis)read TYG03

Michael

sounds like garbage dvd’s are your problem

At least the T03 mentioned by The_Judas isn’t crap - if it is genuine.

I think they’re genuine, they’re from diskimpex.gr.

I tried copying a few more DVD’s.
I used speed measurement from Nero and it showed that my HD could handle 40x speed. Still the dvd was copied at 8x speed this time.

Could this be related to the problem with this drive’s voltage?
Some people mentioned that it needs more voltage in order to read some dvd’s. Maybe the same problem applies to the writing capabilities of the drive?

My power supply is only 300W, but i never had any problems in the past with my previous dvd-writer (LG).
I’ll try to get my hands on another more powerfull PSU for a test.

Hey its not the media, ive been using these discs for years and have used prob close to 1000 of them.

Also I have been tryin different makes of DVD-R and they all burn @ 4x.

Again: please post the MIDs of those discs, and also check the MIDs of the discs that worked for you (with the same drive).

Also I have been tryin different makes of DVD-R and they all burn @ 4x.
The same. Please post the MIDs.
Also try DVD+R (Verbatim MCC004 if possible) and report back, please.

Michael

Possibly issues with the discs themselves:
Screenshots of two TDK TTH02 (CMC made) tried at 16x. Both were from the same spindle.
