Please help as ihave bought cdr-w in bulk if it dosent work i am dead for sure.

Niranjan

Hi nkirad and welcome to the forums

Quite an old piece of hardware you got there but lets see what we can do

First of all you have DMA off for the drive, which slows down a lot the data transfer rates. In windows 98 DMA is enabled in the drive’s properties in system devices. There you should find a small box mentioning DMA, just tick it to enable this. You should also check if DMA is enabled for you hard disk drive too, through its properties.

Looking through Neros help for track following error, it suggests it is mainly an incompatability with the cdrw media used, so please try also to burn on othe cdrw media.

Let us know how it goes

Hi Hemispasm

I tried with other cdr-w from other brands like liteon and sony but gives same error i havent tried DMA yet but will try right now and will post.

Niranjan

Activating DMA mode dosent help.
I activated DMA mode for cd writer and harddisk.
Any other tricks?
I even tried Nero 6 but gives same error.
But the same cdr-w works fine in my iomega external burner useing hotburn pro.
My guess is that the problem is in cd writer or the cd writing software.

Niranjan

So, you have

  • used other cdrw media (other than the one giving the problem)
  • enabled DMA

Maybe the new high speed rewritable media aint compatible with your drive, you can try older rewritable media that are up to x4 or something. When you record to cd recordables not rewritables do you get the same problem?

You can try finding a newer firmware for the drive, although it will be a bit difficult since the drive is somewhat old. You can try contacting HP to check if one is available.

You can also try using other recording software.

Have you installed any third party’s ASPI, like the Adaptec ones?

Yes i tried cd recordable it works fine in both disc at once and multi session mode. The problem is only with CD-RW.
No i havent installed third party ASPI.
But i havent tried old cd-rw media, i’ll try that and post here the results.
And also i’ll try some other cd writing software.

Here are the details of the cd-rw i am having problem with.

Product
CD-RW / CD-RW DA 80 (4x ~ 10x)

Hope this helps

Niranjan

Ok here goes i checked my cd writers specs it says

HP 9100B WRITER
SUPPORTED SPEEDS
CD-R 8X
CD-RW 4X
MULTIREAD 32X

80MIN CD COMPATABLE
IDE CONNECT PRODUCT
MADE IN KOREA

I ALSO FOUND THAT THE SONY MULTISPEED CD-RW WORKS WITH IT.
THE SPEED OF SONY CD-RW IS 1X 2X 4X

So does this mean that samsung cd-rw are not compatable eith my cd writer.
Also i tried other cd writing software with samsung cd-rw it dosent work.
But my friend with same cd writer is using samsung cd-rw with no problem.

What do you think?
