Samsung and Region-counter (the hardware one)

Hi does anyone know if a samsung SH-S222L would be locked forever on the last region code when its hardware based region-counter reaches zero ?, or are samsung drives easy candidates to wipe the counter out by flashing a new firmware then ?

i.e. do I have to be careful when changing out region 1 and 2 discs in this drive ?

I know there are tools like AnyDVD to circumvent this but i was just curious as PowerDVD keeps wanting to set a new region code each time I change from a region 1 to a region 2 disc v.v.

Yes, you have. Or apply a RPC1 patched firmware.

Commercial DVD playback software always wants to set the region of the drive, and it has also an internal region counter.

Yes as mciahel said you have to be very careful why not just use the patch utility and
make the drive a RPC1 or region free drive here is the link to it

Just go and DL the latest FW for your drive and you will need a RAR to open the FW up
to extract the FW itself and then run it through the patcher and apply what ever patches
you want to it save it and then flash your drive with it and bingo you have a region free drive.

make sure to click on the ATTACHED FILEand save it and do not click on the
ONE CLICK FIRMWARE UPGRADE METHOD as that will not work with the patcher.

If you need an app to unpack a RAR file then here is 3 good ones to choose from
first one is shareware
WinRAR

The next 2 are freeware
UnRAR

7-Zip

Hope this helps you out.
